Girişimin ana amaçları, Ar-Ge’de AI konusunda  ilerlemeler kat etmek; kamu ve özel sektörde güvenilir yapay zeka sistemlerinin geliştirilmesi ve kullanılmasında dünyaya öncülük etmek; ekonominin ve toplumun tüm sektörlerinde yapay zeka sistemlerinin entegrasyonu için mevcut ve gelecekteki işgücünü hazırlamak; ve her birinin diğerinin çalışmalarını bilgilendirmesini sağlamak için tüm kurumlar arasında devam eden AI faaliyetlerini koordine etmek.

Girişimi desteklemek için  kurumlar arası komite ve ajans başkanları aracılığıyla hareket ederek yapay zeka Ar-Ge’si için tutarlı desteği sürdürmek, yapay zeka eğitimini ve işgücü eğitim programlarını desteklemek, disiplinler arası yapay zeka araştırmalarını desteklemektir. Eğitim programları, kurumlar arası AI faaliyetlerini planlar ve koordine eder, çeşitli paydaşlara sosyal yardım sağlar, girişim hedeflerini ilerletmek için mevcut yatırımlardan yararlanır, disiplinler arası yapay zeka araştırma enstitüleri ağını destekler; ve güvenilir yapay zeka sistemleri için Ar-Ge, değerlendirme ve kaynaklar konusunda stratejik müttefiklerle uluslararası işbirliği fırsatlarını destekler.

Ulusal AI Girişimi, akademi, endüstri, kar amacı gütmeyen kuruluşlar ve sivil toplum kuruluşları ile işbirliği içinde tüm departmanlar ve ajanslarında yapay zeka araştırma, geliştirme, gösterim ve eğitim faaliyetlerini güçlendirmek ve koordine etmek için kapsamlı bir çerçeve sağlar.
